I'd play my hammered dulcimer!

Hi! My name is Amanda Roberts. I live in Dayton, OH, but I left my heart in Monroe, LA.

I am:
(1)a Christian,
(2)a wife,
(3)a mother,
(4)a musician.

I have been a pianist almost all my life; I went to college and graduated with a B.M. in percussion performance; and now I play the hammered dulcimer for fun.

We just started a business selling books! We have four titles at present. So if you are looking for The Federal Vision by Athanasius Press, visit http://www.southernandreformedbooks.homestead.com We are also selling three other books authored by our friend Shonda Parker, a professional herbalist. The titles include The Naturally Healthy Pregnancy, The Naturally Healthy Woman, and Mommy Diagnostics. The website is still under minor construction, so please be patient!
We are excited about our new venture and hope to add more titles in the near future.

On another note, I haven't blogged in over a year because there are some many other things in our lives that are more important. But I just might start posting again. We'll see.

Today (8:30-4:30) I am keeping a 1-year-old who is always held . . . on the hip . . . in a sling. He is passed from sitter to sitter every day, as his parents have the same work schedule, and I guess they don't want to put him in daycare. He is never allowed to cry, which is one of the most absolute worst things you can do for a baby!!!!! So, naturally, I let him cry this morning. He cried and screamed and whined every second he wasn't in my arms facing me and on my hip. No, I couldn't just hold him. He had to be on the hip, or else he would climb up my chest until he worked himself into that position. Poor Nathan and James just didn't know what to think of him. I had to nurse Steven with one arm around this little boy.

But there is a little hope! we ate lunch at 1:00, and he hasn't whined since. Of course, I have had him in my lap. But I have been able to get some things done on the computer, and I just got a smile out of him for the first time today.

I am so glad that I am able to raise my boys and not give them to someone else to do the job.

So I decided to blog. Charles is playing a concert, Nathan and James are upstairs playing, and Steven is sitting in my lap.

We enjoyed our extremely brief visit in Monroe. The trip home was really rough, though. We went from Monroe to Memphis to Detroit to Dayton. The flight from Memphis to Detroit was the longest - 2 hours. It will be a while before we do that again with all three boys. Of course, it will be a while before we could afford to do that again! Next time we'll be able to drive down.

I just started teaching piano again. I have three students, ages 8, 10 and 13. We meet every other week because I drive to their house, which is 45 minutes away. I am teaching only when Charles is off, so we won't be meeting on the same day and not necessarily at the same time. That will be a little interesting. But I'm looking forward to it. I love working with beginners.

I hope to record a demo really soon so I can send it out to some local restaurants. I have always wanted to play in a restaurant. I remember eating at The Carousel with my parents and hearing the pianist play The Music Box Dancer, and I would get to put a tip in her jar.

I think I'll put the boys to bed now. I have some cleaning to do. Charles' birthday is tomorrow, and I have a little party planned. Hopefully I will successfully surprise him!

I think that my blogging is about to become extremely sporadic. I have very little time to sit down at the computer anymore. So don't be surprised if you don't hear anything from me for a couple of weeks. We'll see.

I am trying to get out more with the boys, now that it is much warmer. Today we took Charles to work, then ate lunch at a park. Then we went to the BX & commissary. That was fun. Nathan had his own little shopping cart. Oops! Don't tell Charles - I meant buggy. Anyway, the boys survived an hour of grocery shopping. Then I drove around until Nathan fell asleep. (He rarely takes an afternoon nap, so I cherish the times when he does!) We're going to the library after supper, then we'll pick up Charles.

I have to take care of a crying boy now. Nathan just woke up from his nap and is now sitting on his toy box making the whiniest cry he can make. I'm not too sure he's really awake yet.

So I'll blog when I get a chance, but it might be a couple of weeks before I do. There are lots of things to be done around the house, a couple of books to read, and lots of fun with the boys to be had. And we'll be flying down to Monroe May 29th for a very short visit. Yay!!!!! We're really looking forward to that.

It seems like all I'm doing these days is washing clothes and dishes. But that's what's important right now, so I'll do my best to do it joyfully!

Not too much news here. Pres. Bush made a visit to the base on Wednesday. Well, I guess that's a little piece of news.

Last night I accompanied a choir at Cincinnati Country Day School. I have two other concerts there next week. Next Friday I'll be playing an hour of dinner music at Dominion Academy's ball. Just when I thought I wouldn't get any more gigs, I got several within two weeks' time! And my agent (Charles) just sent out a few letters to advertise me at some local universities.

God sometimes gives us what seem to be little blessings, and we don't realize how abundant they are until they start adding up.

A couple funny searches this week:

what to do if you had a headache for couple days . . . I don't know
does Roomba Floor Vac really work . . . I don't know

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Oops . . . Nathan just fell out of bed! Mom to the rescue . . .

Today was a beautiful day. We took our dinner to Englewood Metropark and walked a short ways on a trail after we ate. Then we went to Bible study at church and put the boys straight to bed when we got home. And here I am on the computer! (I haven't gotten on in a few days.) I think I'll clean a little now and read after that. Not much time left before I turn into a pumkin!

Yesterday our favorite thrift store had their Spring half-price sale. We spent $25 . . . I found 5 dresses for me, 5 shirts for Charles, 5 books and 5 toys for the boys, and 5 back issues of various magazines. I guess 5 was our lucky number for the day. I was very pleased with our findings!
